April Sims to join WSLC staff as Field Mobilization Director
“I am thrilled to announce that April Sims will be joining the Washington State Labor Council, beginning October 7,” said WSLC President Jeff Johnson. “April brings a ton of political and field experience from her years with the Washington Federation of State Employees and a huge amount of respect from our affiliates who she has worked with for years on political and policy campaigns. Please join me in congratulating April on her new position.”
Sims has been a union member, shop steward, elected union officer, and union staffer with WFSE since February 2002. As the WSLC’s Field Mobilization Director, Sims will work with affiliates to support and encourage the participation of individual members with the council’s many political, legislative and community programs. Sims and Province will work together until Province retires on Nov. 1.
“I’m very excited about joining the WSLC team and the opportunity to expand upon what is my passion: engaging union members in politics, fighting for workers’ rights, and advocating for working families,” Sims said. “I look forward to working with all of the WSLC’s affiliated unions and community partners and helping build capacity to grow the labor movement and our political power.”
EDITOR’S NOTE — On a personal note, April says she is her family’s reigning Scrabble Champion. “Bring it on,” said The Entire Staff of The Stand.
