WSLC legislative events Feb. 6-7

OLYMPIA (Feb. 6, 2014) — The Entire Staff of The Stand™ will see you at the Washington State Labor Council’s Legislative Reception tonight and the WSLC’s new, improved Legislative Conference tomorrow.

Union leaders, staffers and rank-and-file members of WSLC-affiliated unions will meet and mingle with legislators at the reception tonight beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Olympia Red Lion Hotel. This is a great opportunity to talk informally with legislators and other state officials.

But Friday morning at 8:45 a.m., instead of convening a plenary session at the hotel, participants will have a brief breakfast and lobbying training at the WSLC’s Olympia office building at 906 Columbia St. S.W. After learning about some of the pressing legislative issues facing labor, delegates will walk up to the Capitol campus and lobby their own legislators on these issues. Delegates will return to the WSLC Olympia office for lunch, report-backs and a discussion with legislative leaders. (Buses will shuttle participants staying at the hotel to the WSLC building and back.)

For this intensive day of lobbying to be successful, the WSLC contacted its affiliated unions and urged them to send as many rank-and-file members and staff as possible. That has happened and pre-registration has exceeded last year’s conference by more than 100 people!

Although pre-registration is over, members of WSLC-affiliated unions can register for both events at the door. Just come early to avoid long lines. Also, early registration/check-in for both events will also be available at the Olympia Red Lion from 1 to 4 p.m. today (Thursday). The $85 registration fee covers the reception and conference, plus the breakfast and lunch served Friday. If you wish to bring a guest(s) to tonight’s reception, there will be a nominal fee of $15 per guest.
