Tell legislators to support pro-worker bills
In Olympia this session, progressive legislators are working hard to address these issues and give hardworking people a fair chance to support their families. They have introduced bills that would:
► Allow workers to earn paid sick leave to recover from an illness or take care of a sick child. Sick leave protects customers from getting sick and ensures workers don’t have to choose between their health and paying their bills.
► Raise the state’s minimum wage to $12 per hour over the next three years. More than half a million workers — many of them working moms — would benefit from this increase. Local areas could still increase their minimum wage.
► Increase penalties for wage theft, discourage employers from retaliating against workers who report wage theft, ensure proper wage payment through electronic certified payroll, and address the deliberate misclassification of workers as independent contractors.
The House has already passed the paid safe and sick leave bill and could vote on the minimum wage and wage theft bills at any time.
